2019, Mazarine Restaurant

What the people are saying

I drive by Mazarine regularly on my way downtown and was waiting for the day it opened. A Mediterranean-inspired brunch restaurant, it has some very unique items like avocado toast with labneh and a watermelon with fried halloumi appetizer. A quaint little café, it was half full when we got there, the service was relatively fast, and the owner kept checking up on us to see how we're doing. The coffee (from Happy Goat I believe) was great, I ordered cortado and it was the perfect pick me up to start the weekend. Great addition to the neighbourhood and will certainly be back.- Billy G.

My husband dined here for breakfast last weekend. We were so excited to have a new restaurant nearby and this place lived up to our expectations. We were warmly welcomed by the co-owners, who were generous with water and coffee and even brought over some zaataar to whet our appetite.
The plates lend themselves well to sharing, so we shared the shakshuka and the watermelon and halloumi. The shakshuka has nice chunks of real tomato and was seasoned perfectly with parsley. The watermelon was seedless and was a generous portion, the halloumi squeaky and fresh. The bill for two for breakfast was about 30$, which is in the range for brunch for the area. I'm really excited about this place because it's a step out of the ordinary by offering a middle eastern brunch. The only kind of  restaurant like this that I have tried was in Toronto, so it's really exciting to see something unique pop up in ottawa! - Vanessa D.

Brunch is serious business! The co-owners and staff at Mazarine are working their tails off to bring Centretown a cozy lil place to indulge in unique dishes with fresh, local ingredients. I've been visiting weekly since opening, as it's always a pleasure to dine there. My current favorite dishes are the smoothie bowl (so refreshing after a work-out) and the eggs Florentine. As a fan of Happy Goat, it's a treat to enjoy various coffee drinks featuring their beans, having found the Cortado delivers a delectable experience (which can be ordered as take-out, as well). 5 out of 5, will probably visit again next week! - Paul S.
